Twitter Up Close and Loving It
Today, anyone can simply get their hands into any device with Internet connectivity and “tweet” as much as he wants, that is, express one’s thoughts, update his or her friends on his whereabouts, learn about what other people are up to, be informed about what is happening as it happens, etc. Indeed, this amazing social networking innovation has paved way to a noble revolution in human communications.
Twitter is a social networking service in the form of micro-blogging. Born only in the year 2006 (which means it is a rather young player in the industry), it has immediately picked up great popularity among the diverse modern population.
But no matter how noble it is, it operates in an apparently uncomplicated process, allowing even a starter in the realm of Internet technology to manoeuvre. It works under a system akin to SMS group messaging, trafficking bits and pieces of text-based information, but with more swiftness and with lesser space restriction. It enables users to send out and receive microblog posts of up to 140 characters. These posts are called tweets, now an established social networking jargon. The author can thus send tweets whenever and wherever he wants and have his string of words delivered to his followers (the term used for page subscribers) in an instant.
Thanks to this efficient microblogging service the world is made even smaller. In fact, Twitter is now regarded as a social venue where different types of people converge, as users can range from rock bands to published writers, from business tycoons to small-time entrepreneurs, from low-profile citizens to celebrities, and so on. Probably almost everyone in this planet has a Twitter account to his name. Have you had your share of the “tweeting”?
